A group of us decided to form a racing team and compete in the 24 Hours of Lemons. It was inexpensive racing, relatively speaking, and an incredible amount of fun. But eventually I wanted more racing and a little less partying.

Around that time, a new budget endurance racing organization called ChumpCar was getting started. The concept appealed to me immediately: affordable, competitive, wheel-to-wheel endurance racing for ordinary enthusiasts.

We entered one of the organization's early East Coast events, a 24-hour race at Virginia International Raceway. Twenty-four hours of racing at VIR. I was hooked.
